blog 10: My last day at WLE

On my last day of WLE what I did was to help children plant green bean seeds in a small cup filled with soil. During their recess time i read some little girls some books. Then I watched the children play and eat and sleep. Then at the end of the day we watched cinderella 3. I got popcorn. then I said my goodbyes and the children came to hug me. So then I left. The major thing that i learned during my internship was that I can take care of children very well and be like a teacher or something.
Emily and I were able to finish our project. We were diligent in our work to finish and even though we were not able to actually plant in th garden because it is to early in the year, we were able to plant with the children in the cups. Emily was able to get plenty of pictures of our project so we have a good amount.

Post 9: Description of my workplace

The place that I work at is His Growing Grove child care center. There are different classrooms that have the age range from infants to five years of age. I worked in room 4 where there were only four and five year olds. My mentor is Ms. Gloria. There are two other teachers there in that classroom too. Their names are Ms. Betty and Ms. Michelle. there are 24 children in that classroom. They eat healthy meals for breakfast, lunch and for snack time. The children have a sharing time, circle time, gym time, movie time, recess, sometimes they have art time, and they have nap time. People that work in this place are pretty much mostly women and some cook, some work in the office, some clean up, and well there are teachers too. my workplace employs alot of women. I do not know how many people work there though.
I do not know if most of the women have to go to college but I know that of course the teachers need some type of college but I do not know how much. My workplace is located in First Presbyterian Church of Hayward/ Castro Valley, 2490 Grove Way, Castro Valley, CA 94546. the daycare center is behind the Church. The building looks nice and well maintained. It has playgrounds that the children play in.

blog 8: Looking at other people's blogs

I think that more than learning in my internship I am working. from the people that i read about, the ones that work at schools are learning a great deal on how to be with children. The people's blogs that I read were David's, Emily's, Ruth's, Shirley's, and Kevin's. I think that the best blogs were from Ruth because she was very very discriptive. Her blog seemed so exciting like a story I guess. To make my blogs more effective I should describe my days alot more better. It seems like that not everybody is actually blogging. Some people started but then they stopped and others barely started blogging. I could help remind my brother to blog every week.
I love my internship but i do not like my project beacuse now i cannot be with the children just because I need to finish my project. I had to be outside from 11 to 4:30 on friday cutting ivy and putting it in bags. Emily and I filled 11 bags full of trash from all the ivy that we cut down. I just think that i should have just prepared a class for the children instead but atleast we are almost done. This friday one of the teachers baught me a cold coffee thingy ( i dont know what it is called) from Petes Coffee, so that was cool and new for me. That is bout it.

Post 7: How my WLE project is going

This Friday what I did was spend pretty much most of my time in the garden cutting ivy from the fence. So what I am doing in this project is to fix up the garden and make plants grow there. So whatI i will be doing for the next three days of my WLE is try to cut out as much of the ivy as possible and plant a garden for the Daycare. that is pretty much it.

Blog 6:

In my WLE I was in the classroom for the first part of my day. It was a pretty chill day. Pretty much all that I did was watch all the children play in the classroom and in the gym. I also helped serve the lunch for the children. The other thing that I helped in was to help set up for an art activity by taping Popsicle sticks together in sets of four.

For the other half of my day after my lunch break Emily and I got together to work on the garden. We got a lot of progress done. We took out a lot of the dead leaves. We took out a lot of weeds. We took a small break and we kept on going ad we filled four garbage bags with waste and garbage from the garden. Then we cleaned up our mess and left because it was time for us to go.

POST 5: Friday Dec. 17th, Hours and Project

Today at my intership it was pjama day and I helped the children complete their art projects which were angel ornaments, gingerbread man necklaces, and small Chistmas tree ornaments too. I helped the children by putting the glue on the peices and telling them where to put the peices. I also helped serve lunch and I also set up the tables later for the icecream party that they were going to have. My Academic Seminar teacher Mr. Wild came to my intership today. He talked to my mentor and I mostly listened. My mentor is the lead teacher in the classroom. She helped the children with their art projects as well. She looked after the children and made sure that they were well behaved as well as all the other teachers. She took her lunch break and then came back. She also helped serve lunch and the icecream.

I have all the hours that I need at the moment. I have around 41:50 hours done. I have not finished the essenential question and thr thesis but i am thinking on doing something for their garden. The garden that they have does not seem to be able to grow anything and some place that they have needs tambark. So my friend Emily and I hopefully are going to work together in the project to be able to grow a garden and toput in tambark in where ever they need it. So far I have no collected anything from the internship because I barely found out that I had to do that.

POST 4: Friday Dec. 10th, Leadership Skills

the leadership skills that iam using in my internship are complete projects effectively and collaborate productively. I used complete projects effectively by doing my best to complete the projects and jobsthat my mentor gave me. to be able to complete my jobs quickly and in a good manner. I used collaborate productively  because i would have to collaborate with the childrenlike in the Nativity art project i had to help them put together all the peices for the banner. i had to tell them where to put the peices that i gave them after i would glue them.
Some skills that i am developing in my internship that i cannot really learn in a classroom in Impact are how to take care of children, how to be a teacher for pre-schoolers. Some skills that i have learned in Impact that i am using in my intership are how to talk to adults and how to use my time wisely. some other skills that i have used are how to stay focused and hw to act professionally. my role as asudent and my role as an intern are different because in my internship i do not do as much work as in school. i also have a better sense of how to be respnsible for my work. Also in my internship i am more of a teacher or teacher's assistant than a student.

post 3- DECEMBER 3, 2010

My work place is a Christian based child care center. It takes care of children while parents are at work so it benifits the parents and the children who go. Some strengths that my work place has is that they really do a really great job taking care of children and teaching them. they have classes for infants to children around the age of four and five. they do child led learning, they serve very healthy food. there alot of art projects that the older children do. the kids lead circle time and sharing time. there is always a helper of the day. they pary for the food and teach the children how to be clean by having the children wash their hands frequently. the children seem to have a great time learning and being in the class.
I really think that the day care and the teachers are great. i really have not noticed much of any weakness because the teachers do their job very well. They know how to control the kids. the kids seem to have a wonderful time learning and exploring. everything is so structured and fun for the children.

post 1- First Day of My Internship October 29, 2010.

on the first day of my internship i had a very good time. in the beginning the director gave me and my friend Emily some orrientattion on what we would do and some rules that we had to follow. then i went to the classrom that i was going to help out in. i met all of the children that i would be working with and i also met the teachers. i watched the children play and helped out with decorations because they were going to have a harvest party, which is an alternative to Halloween. i even read them a book about a scarecrow boy. i also helped serve the lunches to the children. I also watched the children have nap time and i had a 30 minute lunch break at 1:00pm.

i do not really know if i impressed my mentor. she was really nice though and i did everything that she wanted me to do. since the children had alot of recess times, a time to go play in the gym and a three hour nap time i was not really extremly busy but did what i could and offered my help all the time. i do not have any questions for my mentor because i get all that i have to do there. a question that i would have for my academic seminar teacher would be about that project that we would have to do in our internship and how it is supposed to work.
